Kyrie Irving no jugará tampoco los playoffs

Kyrie Irving pasará por quirófano este sábado de nuevo y estará de baja entre cuatro y cinco meses. En un principio, el base de los Celtics iba a estar de baja entre tres y seis semanas: se perdía la recta final de la temporada y era duda en la primera ronda del playoff. Pero la realidad para la franquicia de Massachusetts ha sido mucho peor: tiene una infección en la rodilla (según ha confesado el propio Irving) y no volverá hasta la próxima temporada. Irving volverá a pasar por quirófano este sábado para retirar dos tornillos en la rótula implantados tras la operación de las Finales de 2015.

Irving cierra su primer año en los Celtics (llegó a Boston este verano tras ver cumplido su sueño de dejar a los Cavaliers de LeBron) tras haber disputado 60 encuentros, en los que ha promediado 24,4 puntos, 3,8 rebotes, 5,1 asistencias y 1,1 robos.

Su último encuentro fue el 11 de marzo frente a los Pacers. Aquel día sólo disputó 15:55 y el base decidió parar para intentar llegar fino a los playoffs. «No estoy preparado. Espero que no sea necesario pasar por quirófano», dijo aquel día Irving, pero su estado no mejoró y a finales de mes se sometió a una operación.
